Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 HCSB
I love to travel. I have a wonderful travel agent. I know that when I call Julie and tell her where I want to go and when, she can make it happen. Not only can she make it happen, but when she plans my vacation everything goes off without a hitch. Years ago I would have Julie plan all my trips. But I decided to go visit some friends that live only five hours away. No problem, I would just book a room. I didn’t need a car, didn’t need a plane, just a room for three nights. I booked my room three months in advance. No problem, right. Wrong! Even though the hotel sent me a letter with a confirmation number which confirmed my stay for the dates I had chosen, they denied that I had a room there. There was a huge convention in town. I spent nearly an hour going back and forth with the desk clerk and then management to no avail. They were booked solid and I was only able to get into a much older, not nearly as nice, hotel on the outskirts of town. I was not happy, to say the least. I then realized that had I gone through Julie for this, it would have had much different results.
I have also finally learned that my life is just a journey. My journey to Heaven has been much like the Israelites journey to the Promised Land. The problems have been similar and the reasons have been the same. You see every time I get distracted and take my focus off of God, my journey doesn’t go so well. When I try to plan things my way, it doesn’t go so well. But when I let God plan my journey, it all works out.
This is why I have learned that when God changes my plans, to roll with it because it is for my good. You might have noticed that I did not post a blog yesterday. Well, I had intended to spend a day away from home yesterday and I did, but not in the way that I had planned. I had planned on going to lunch with some friends, then going shopping, and then onto dinner. We were going to run away from home for the day. But Wednesday evening as I was trying to coordinate what time we were going to leave and who was going to drive, one of my friends who also has her elderly mom living with her, said she could not go because she had no sitter for Thursday. We quickly decided that we would all postpone until a later date. I was not disappointed that we couldn’t go, because I have learned that there is always a reason. Perhaps we were avoiding an auto accident, perhaps there was some reason we needed to be home. Thursday morning, I spoke with my other friend that was supposed to go and she said that postponing had worked out better for her. Later in the day my mom was sleeping heavily and not wanting to wake up even to eat. Home health was scheduled to start that day and when the nurse came by, she suggested that we go to the ER as she suspected a UTI. We went to the ER and found not only a UTI, but a touch of pneumonia which was just starting and caught before it became a real problem. We spent the night and most of yesterday in the hospital, but my mom is doing much better. I am so thankful to God for changing my plans. I am so thankful for the medical personnel that diagnosed the problem and got mom on the road to recovery.
Now God knew on Wednesday when our plans fell apart that I needed to be home on Thursday. This is why I have learned to not be disappointed when I am looking forward to something and it gets cancelled. I know that for everything God has a reason. I have learned to not trust in what I think and what I want, but to trust in Him.
Like a really good travel agent, God plans our lives. He knows our future. Trust in Him with all you have. When you are hoping for something and God says no, know that He has a good reason.
My prayer for you today is that you have reached that point in your walk with Christ where you are trusting in Him to guide your steps and meet all of your needs. I pray that you have a close enough relationship with Him so that you can discern His perfect will for your life.
With websites now that book your travel, it is tempting to do it yourself. On the journey of life I beg of you to trust the One, true, living, God to guide you and plan every step of this journey.
Have a great day!
