For we walk by faith, not by sight, 2 Corinthians 5:7 HCSB
Our scripture passage today is short, sweet and to the point. As Christians, we walk by faith, not by sight.
When you are in your home, walking in the dark is not quite so scary because you are in familiar surroundings. So, if you tiptoe through the dark, you know where things are or at least where they are supposed to be. We’ve probably all stepped on the occasional Lego piece or the Hot Wheels car, right?
When we walk by faith in our day to day lives, we are walking in complete trust of God. We are trusting that His will is what is best for our lives. When we pray, we pray with faith. Not being able to see the future that lies ahead should not be scary because we know that God has it in His very capable hands and that He works all things for our good (Romans 8:28). We know that He has good plans for us and wants us to do well (Jeremiah 29:11). We trust in this and if you have done it long enough, you know it to be true.
Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith, it is impossible to please God. And in all honesty, I don’t know why anyone would pray to God and not believe that He can grant what they ask. If we truly believe in God and believe that He has the awesome power that He has, why would we ever doubt Him. Now, the bible also clearly tells us that often we pray and our prayers are not answered because we pray with the wrong motives (James 4:3), but that’s a whole other blog.
Several years ago a woman in a town nearby went to the doctor and was told to go and make her final arrangements as she only had 2-4 weeks to live, due to cancer. This woman told the doctor that only God knew how long she had to live, she had churches in the area praying for her. She lived past that deadline that doctor had given her and several weeks later was found to be cancer free.
Just last night at church one of our members had a praise report for a man that we have been praying for. This man was diagnosed with cancer and told that he would need a bladder transplant to survive. He was later told that due to the condition of his heart and some other organs that he was not a candidate for transplant surgery and there was nothing they could do. He went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and they found no cancer in his body at all. He was declared cancer free.
Where doctors see only cancer, God sees a cure. Where we see no way out, God sees a clear path. We don’t know what our future holds because we cannot see our future, but God can see our future. He knows what the future holds for us.
So, when you think about it, we walk blindly anyway, right? We can’t see the future, we don’t know what is laid out in front of us. So, doesn’t it just make sense to give it all over to God and walk by faith? Doesn’t it make sense to be in close relationship with Him and let Him guide our every step.
The next time the devil tries to get you into a frenzied state of panic and starts playing the “what if” game with you where he convinces you that the worst case scenario is bound to happen, pray. Trust God to get the devil off your back. Trust God to guide you and lead you in the way that you should go. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that while we may plan our course that God directs our steps. Proverbs 37:23 promises that the Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him.
Accept the fact that we live blindly in this world because we have no idea what the future holds. Take God’s hand, enter into a solid relationship with Him and trust Him to lead and guide you in the way that you should go. When we walk blindly in faith, we don’t stumble, we walk steady and strong.
Have a great day!
