Be Still

Psalm 46:10 He says “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Be still and know that I am God.  Sounds so simple right? Just relax, God’s got this.  Why then is it so hard to do? It’s so hard to watch our enemies hurl stones at us and trust God to handle it, but that is exactly what we are expected to do.  I do believe that there may be times when God tells us to act, but in many cases he simply tells us to step back and let him handle it.

I have learned that when I lift a problem up to God and then try to take it back is when I get into trouble.  When I get busy trying to “handle things myself” I’ve noticed that God seems to step back and let me go it alone.  That is never good, but when I totally give it to him, I sit in wonder and watch his works.

This brings us to the second part of this passage.  My handling my own problems does not bring God any glory.  How can God be exalted if we are trying to handles things on our own?

The best advice I can give from personal experience is when you feel compelled to handle something that you have given to God,  DON’T DO IT! Resist the urge by praying, reading your bible, focusing on all those things are good and lovely in the world.  Let God work, he can do far better than we can in any situation.
