Stress, anxiety, fear. These are things that we deal with more and more in our society today.
Yesterday we awoke to find that a shooting in Virginia had injured several people and that the shooter had been killed. In California another shooting. There were a number of people on the news calling for more gun control. Does anyone think that someone who is about to go shoot a number of people will be concerned that their having a gun may be illegal?
People said we are praying. I had to wonder were they really praying or did it just sound like the proper thing to say?
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Our land is in desperate need of healing. Prayer is not something we should do as a 911 call when things are bad. Prayer is something we should be doing constantly. We should be humbling ourselves before God our father and praising him and asking him to heal our land. Prayer has been removed from our schools, we are in a society where God is seldom mentioned unless something horrible happens. We don’t openly praise Him. We have experienced numerous tragedies in this nation and it always seems to bring us together in prayer for a week or two. It is my prayer today that through these tragic events we can become a nation that humbles ourselves, prays, seeks God first and foremost and turns from our wicked ways. Then and only then will God forgive our sin and hopefully heal our land.
