Now this is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in Him. If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:9 HCSB
I’ve spoken with some people who have gone through hard times in their life. through talking with them they have admitted to being mad at God. This caused me to look back and think if I had ever been mad at God. Maybe there were a few times when I had been but was too afraid to admit it. You see I would never have the guts to say that I am mad at God. However, in this encounter with people who are angry with God, I have encouraged them to get down on their knees and admit to God that they are angry. Tell him all about it. He is a big God and He can handle it. I’m happy to say that those who have done this have found their way back into fellowship with God.
I have had times in my life where I have questioned God. I have wondered why he allowed such hard times to fall on me like an avalanche. But I have finally come to realize that we were made to be in fellowship with the Lord. We were made to walk through this life supported by Him and in close relationship with Him. The problem comes when we try to walk in darkness. When we try to live in the way that we lived before walking with Him, it doesn’t work. You see, He will never leave you nor never forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6), but He will not walk in darkness. I have heard people say that they feel abandoned by God. I challenge them to start looking back and they will probably find a point where they began to stray away from Him. He doesn’t abandon us, we abandon Him.
Now, I don’t know what your personal experience has been with the Lord. I can only speak for myself. I spent many years trying to keep one foot in the world and one in the kingdom and it didn’t work. It’s darkness and light, there are no areas that are just not well lit. Either you are in total light or total darkness. When I walked in darkness, it was a roller coaster ride. I lived my life according to my feelings, my emotions. Let’s just say it didn’t go well. I was riding high one minute and sinking low the next. Sin is like a roller coaster, it’s fun for a little while, but then it just wears you down. It never ends well.
If things are going so well for you, read the book of Job. Job was a God fearing, righteous man who lost everything. However, Job never cursed God. He never turned away from God. Not only did he have everything restored to him, but he was given double recompense.
I mentioned Job to help you understand that we will go through periods of trials and tribulations. But when we walk with in the light with the Lord, these things will not overtake us. We will overcome with God’s help.
If things have not been going so well and you find yourself angry at God or questioning Him, do a little self assessment. Are you walking in the light and in close fellowship with your Lord and Savior or have you veered off into the darkness? Are you trying to walk in darkness, but reap the benefits of walking in the light? That will not work. Won’t you step into the light today? He’s waiting with open arms. Follow Him. Allow Him to guide you and show you the way.
Have a great day!
