But if you don’t do this, you will certainly sin against the Lord, be sure your sin will catch up with you. Numbers 32:23 HCSB
There are two types of sin. There is sin of omission where we know the right thing to do but fail to do it (James 4:17). Then there is the sin of commission where we do something that is sinful. We know that we all sin (Romans 3:23). We know that if we confess our sin and repent that God is faithful to forgive us (1 John 1:9). But we also know that if we continue to sin knowing that what we are doing is wrong, there is no sacrifice for our sin (Hebrews 10:26). So if you are sinning deliberately, then you are out there on your own. Good luck with that.
The thing about sin is that it seems like a good idea and in the beginning it is pleasurable. The worst thing about it though, is that it catches up with you. We know that we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). We can’t go around eating nothing but junk and be healthy. Nor can we foolishly spend more than we make and avoid drowning in debt. It’s pretty simple, right? Well, if you have this sin that you can’t let go of, it’s going to catch up to you as well.
One of the first mistakes that we make is that we think that we can hide our sin. Our sin is never hidden from God. Luke 8:17 tells us that there is nothing that is hidden that will not be made known.
As you read this, you are in one of three positions. Perhaps you are caught in a pattern of deliberate sin. You are sinning, you know it’s wrong, but you try to justify it hoping that God will overlook it. He won’t. It may be bringing you pleasure now, but know that this is going to be short lived. When it catches up to you, it will be as though you are drowning in quick sand.
Perhaps you have been held in bondage by this sin for a while and it is just not so much fun anymore. It is beginning to drag you down or catch up to you. If this is the case, know that you can cry out to God. You can ask for His help in turning away from your self-destructive ways. He is faithful to forgive and He will help you to be able to let go of this sin in your life.
It is my hope that as you are reading this you are reminded about the days when you were trapped in sin and are celebrating your freedom from that bondage. I hope that you have turned to God and can now say that you’ve been there, done that, and got the t-shirt and don’t plan to ever go back.
We have choices in life, we can live wisely or foolishly, the choice is ours. But remember Galatians 6:7 tells us not to be deceived, God is not mocked. Whatever a man reaps is what he will sow. Have you ever planted corn and grown watermelons? I think not.
So if you are caught up in sin, know that it will catch up to you. If you are already drowning in the mess you made, know that God’s strong hands can pull you up out of there. Call out to Him, grab hold of His strong, steady hands and trust in Him.
Your sin will catch up to you, but His blood can wash you clean. If you haven’t already done so, won’t you turn to Him today? If you have experienced the life changing power of God’s love and forgiveness and are living a life of peace and joy, won’t you share your testimony to help others that may be going through what you have suffered? Remember, your mess can become your message.
Have a great day!
