This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:11-12 ESV
This scripture passage comes from the story in the bible where Peter and John healed a lame man outside the temple in Jesus’ name. This is after Jesus had been crucified, resurrected and ascended to heaven. Now the Jewish council wanted everyone to forget about Jesus, the Christ that they had not only rejected, but crucified. So Peter and John were arrested and had to appear before the council. You see Peter and John had made the decision to blindly follow Jesus and even though it upset these Jewish leaders, they were going to stay true to Christ.
Chances are if you have lived on this planet long enough, you have blindly followed someone at some point in your life. It’s great to have Christian friends, but remember they are human, they can slip up. Too often, we end up blindly following foolish people or, if we are not careful, evil people. This is when our lives can take a dangerous turn and we can head for that slippery slope.
What scares me today is the large number of people that are willing to blindly follow political candidates or religious leaders. They like something that the person says and put all their trust in them. As Christians this can be very dangerous for us. You see if we pray and read God’s word, he gives us discernment. He sends those little red flags that we have spoken of before to warn us that maybe something isn’t right with this person or something they have said. But if we just listen to this person and tend to slack off in bible study and prayer, then our minds can become the devil’s playground and he will try to convince us that we don’t need to spend so much time praying and studying our bible. He will try to convince us that we can just blindly follow this person and everything will work out. Be very careful my friend. 2 Timothy 3:13 tells us that all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted while evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived, but that we must continue in what we have learned and have believed, knowing from whom we learned it.
What I am trying to say here is that we should only blindly follow Jesus. We need to question what men say. If it lines up with God’s word then this is a good thing, but if it doesn’t then we must beware.
We have so many means of information today. Anything we do or say is subject to wind up on the world wide web. If we spend much time at all on the internet we can be flooded with information. Sadly, most of it is useless in the grand scheme of things. Most of it is not going to help you get into heaven. Most of it is just filler stuff. It will fill some time, it may fill your mind, but it won’t really benefit you in any way in the heavenly realm. Yesterday we spoke of false prophets to who come as wolves in sheep’s clothing. We must be careful. In 1 John 4:1 we are told to test every spirit to see whether they are from God. In Matthew 24:24 we are warned that many false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders in an effort to lead us astray. In 2 Peter 2:1 we are told that false prophets will arise and be false teachers among us who bring in destructive heresies. The bible very clearly warns us that there will be those who falsely proclaim to be Christ and that there will be false prophets.
In John 10:10 we are told that the thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy, but Jesus came so that we may have life and have it more abundantly. So, if you want a good life, blindly follow Jesus. Trust in Him with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind. Know that as you try to follow Jesus that the devil will throw many distractions your way, but keep your blinders on, stay focused and press on.
Have a great day!
