“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on His left. Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matthew 25:31-34 HCSB
For those of you who love to remain neutral, this is not gonna be good. You see we clearly have to choose sides. We must choose to which side we want to be on. James 4:8 tells us that if we draw near to God, God will draw near to us. If we allow our sin to separate us from God, this is a choice we make.
I don’t know a whole lot about sheep or goats, but I understand in this passage that I would much rather be a sheep. I know that sheep are animals that are not so bright and desperately need a shepherd to guide and lead them. Well, that describes me perfectly. Now the little bit of experience that I have had with goats tells me that they climb everywhere and eat whatever is in front of them, be it curtains, furniture or paper or brush. They will eat whatever is there. They can be troublesome creatures.
Our scripture passage tells us that we will be separated. Revelation 20:14 gives us a bit more graphic detail. In Revelation 20 we are told that we will all appear before the Great White Throne of Judgement where we will be judged. Those whose names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will be thrown into the fire. There is clearly going to be separation.
So, there will be no fence sitting here. I need you to understand this if you understand nothing else. For those of you that think that you can keep one foot in the world and one foot in God’s kingdom, you are making a terrible mistake. It just doesn’t work that way, my friend.
Yesterday we talked about being separated or set apart. I beg of you to choose today what team you will be on. You see, if you delay choosing, it may be too late. If you are saying, “well I have plenty of time to decide” you are fooling yourself. Only God knows how much time we have. We may have a minute or many decades, but we have no idea. That is for God only to know.
Let me ask you this question. If you were called before that Great White Throne today, this very minute. Do you know beyond a doubt that you would be going to spend eternity in heaven with God the Father? How did you answer that? If you answered, “Yes, absolutely, without a doubt I know that I am going to heaven,” then good for you! You can stop reading here and enjoy the rest of your day. But if you are unsure. If you hope you will make it, then I beg of you to be sure today. I want you to know that you know, that you are headed to heaven. If this is where your head is turned a little sideways and you are wondering how you can be so sure, allow me to explain.
You see, once you accept Christ as your savior and acknowledge that you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord you are off to a good start. But then we have to confess our sins. We have to repent and we have to ask Jesus to come into our hearts and help us to resist the devil. We have to ask Him to cleanse us of our sins and help us to not sin anymore. Then we have to completely surrender to Him. By this I mean we give it ALL over to God. We hold nothing back. We give Him the good, the bad, and the ugly. He’s a big God, he can handle it, trust me. Then, like sheep, we trust in Him completely to lead and guide us through this thing called life.
Now once we have done this, then we can know that we know that we are headed to heaven to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father.
